Russia-stop and read.

Padlocks declaring eternal love in Russia.

I can’t believe it’s already Valentine’s day. Things are happening so fast here, that I’m having difficulty keeping up with things.

If you don’t know what to do tomorrow, or if you don’t know if you’re going to do the right thing, read on.

Valentine’s day is very special to me. It’s the day I got married!

I remember that day as if it were yesterday. It was a bright, exceptionally sunny winter’s Tuesday in Brussels. As I walked to the beautiful Brussels town hall (right around the corner from where I lived!), groups of tourists spotted me walking with my bridal bouquet and started taking photographs.

It kind of felt like I was part of the city scenery 😉

This year, I’m planning on celebrating our Valentine wedding anniversary over a movie and a Thai diner, AND our daughter will join us. This might seem strange to some people, but the offspring is the best thing that’s happened to us in the years of our marriage, so she totally deserves to celebrate with us.

If you haven’t yet decided on what to do tomorrow – or if you actually hate Valentine’s day and prefer not to do anything (out of the ordinary) – here are 3, easy, out-of-the-box, last-minute, no-shopping tips that you can use on your own Valentine’s day:

  1. Don’t spend all your money. Spend all your time.
Money is just a thing and presents don’t last. It’s your time that makes memories. So relax.
  2. If you plan a surprise, make sure it is appreciated.
Specifically if you plan on doing something your partner would normally detest. Not everyone likes to be proposed to in a room full of strangers…
  3. Make sure every day is Valentine’s day.
If you never make time for each other or things aren’t going so well, one big celebration is not going to do the trick. Take little steps and start by telling each other every single day how much you love each other. Only then will a special day make sense. Romance is about the little things, not you showing off.[Love-Heart]-Keep-Calm-And-Love-On

I wish you a very happy and loving Valentine’s day, whether your loved one is human or a cat 😉
